John Sullivan is a director at The Alta Group, where he brings significant expertise in consumption-based transformation, go-to-market strategy and product innovation to his work serving clients within Alta’s Strategy & Competitive Alignment practice. John leverages his deep experience in equipment finance to help clients design innovative business models, optimize pricing strategies, and align their go-to-market approach for sustained growth. John engages with clients in Business Strategy, Growth Strategy, Asset Management and Management of Captive Vendor Financing operations.
Before joining Alta, John spent more than 25 years as a global leader at Cisco Systems Capital. He brings extensive expertise in structured project financing, pricing, contracts, credit underwriting, sales, operations, and financial product and offer development. Most recently, he focused on consumption, utility, and XaaS financing models and has a keen interest in AI applications for finance. At Cisco, he led the development and launch of Open Pay, the company’s first consumption-based financing model.
Previously, as Vice President and Credit Manager at Bank of America’s Global Corporate Bank, John specialized in telecommunications lending. John earned his BA in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA in Finance and International Business from the NYU Stern School of Business. He and his wife, Cameron, reside in Pleasanton, Calif. A dedicated fitness enthusiast, John enjoys swimming, cycling, and Pilates.
